'Gesima Season

 In these few weeks after the Feast of the Presentation (2nd February) and before Ash Wednesday (22nd February this year) we begin to count the days towards Easter.
Here at St Michael's we like to preserve the system in the Book of Common Prayer of looking towards Easter. The counting is done in Latin. Septuagesima = 70th, Sexagesima = 60th and Quinquagesima = 50th day - approximately the number of days left to celebrating the Feast of Feasts.
Liturgical vestments are green during this period and the normal course of the Lectionary resumes. This year we have 3 Sundays before Lent begins.
